SMART529 Fund the Future Sweepstakes Opportunity
The West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office (WVSTO) announced the Fund the Future Sweepstakes on May 1, 2026. One lucky West Virginia child will win a $10,000 SMART529 College Savings account. Children must be 17 years of age or younger to enter. Deadline is Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The entry form and official sweepstakes rules can be found at www.wvtreasury.gov/fundthefuture.
•Entries must be completed by a parent or legal guardian •Child must be 17 or younger •Child AND parent or legal guardian must be a resident of West Virginia •Only one entry per eligible child permitted •Multiple children in a household may be entered to win *See Official Sweepstakes Rules for eligibility requirement details and other contest rules.
Research shows that children, with even a small amount of college savings, are 2.5 times more likely to graduate from college. We hope our sweepstakes inspires families to learn about the SMART529 College Savings Program and start planning for their child’s educational future. Funds saved in a SMART529 account aren’t just limited to paying for college – the funds can also be used for apprenticeship programs as well as vocational and trade schools across the United States and even some foreign institutions.
Calhoun Middle High School will be closed tomorrow due to the PSD working on a water line.
Arnoldsburg Elementary School (AES) and Pleasant Hill Elementary (PHE) will operate on a normal schedule.

Calhoun County Schools will operate on a 3-hour delay on Tuesday, March 17th.
We have been made aware of a situation within the county that is unrelated to the school system. Out of an abundance of caution, all Calhoun County Schools are currently on a soft lockdown until further notice.
During a soft lockdown, all students and staff remain safely inside the building, and normal classroom instruction continues. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority.

Under WV Code, SSOs play a vital role in keeping our schools safe by monitoring security, deterring threats, and coordinating with law enforcement. While they cannot make arrests, they can intervene in emergencies and ensure rapid response.
Jeff brings extensive experience from his 25 years with the West Virginia State Police and working closely with the local Sheriff’s Department. His background and dedication to student safety make him an outstanding addition to our district.
